This piece is part of METAMORPHOSIS, a collection of solid silver objects depicting the Stag Beetle in the pupal, larval and imago (adult) stage of the lifecycle.
The pupa is the insect stage between larva and adult (the butterfly equivalent would be a chrysalis). After spending most of their lives underground as larvae they pupate into this incredible form, where you can see the beetle’s spectacular jaws taking shape.
These creations are the product of a unique collaboration between jeweller silversmith Toby Cotterill, digital sculptor Ian Watkins, and The Royal Entomological Society.
The designs are digitally created and 3D printed, cast using 100% recycled silver, hand finished and hallmarked. They are available in a range of pendants, pins and keyrings, with £10 from each sale being donated to the Royal Entomological Society, who do amazing work supporting the understanding and development of insect science.
